Baby Album - Splish Splash

Hi everyone.  I am continuing to work on putting together my friend's baby album and I'm on a bit of a roll.  I always find that my friends with kids have at least one picture in their home of their baby in bath, so I made this layout to commemorate the "fun in the tub."  This layout was really easy to pull together and I primarily relied on Everyday Paper Dolls and New Arrival

Baby Album - So Sweet

Over the weekend I started working on a baby album for a girlfriend of mine who is expecting her second child, a little boy named Reid. I find that designing layouts without pictures is really difficult for me, so this project will be a good challenge and really push me creatively.  Although I have some ideas for the pages I want to make, the majority of the album will likely be made up as I go or until I run out of ideas.  The idea for this page started with the train from New Arrival.  I knew I wanted to use the boxcars to write out Reid's name and keep with the images from the cartridge for the rest of the layout.  For an initial page, I think it turned out alright.

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!

Yesterday, my parents celebrated 41 years of marriage.  I always find it funny that when I call each year to wish them a happy anniversary, they down play their years of marriage and joke that they have no choice but to stay together because who would want them after all these years.  I had a hard time initially coming up with a design idea, however, I knew I wanted the card to be funny. So when I came across the salt and pepper shakers in the From My Kitchen cartridge, an idea came to mind.  The card is very simple, but the sentiment reads "They've been together forever!"  On the inside of the card, I wrote "Just like the two of you."  Cheesy? Yes it is, but comes from love so they'll love it!

Card Base: Kraft card stock from Recollections sized at 5 x 5"
First Layer: American Crafts yellow textured card stock sized at 4 3/4 x 4 3/4"
Second Layer: American Crafts pattered paper sized at 4 1/2 x 4 1/2"

Flaunt it Friday's Birthday Bash Blog Hop

Happy Friday and welcome to the Flaunt It Fridays' Birthday Bash Blog Hop! If you are here from Lisa's blog then you are in the right spot. If you just arrived here and would like to start from the beginning please click here to go directly to Flaunt It Fridays.

For this week's challenge we were asked to "flaunt" the bunny with present image on page 27 of the Birthday Bash cartridge.  Since I don't own that one, I used the bunny image on page 7 of Simply Charmed and pulled together a 2-page layout to give as a gift for my friend's daughter's first birthday. The other elements on the page come from Once a Upon a Princess.  The birthday party will be later this month and I wanted to give my friend an easy way to remember the occasion.  I've never created a layout where I didn't have pictures pre-selected so this was quite a challenge for me.

Now onto the blog candy....

For this hop I am giving away two American Crafts 6x6 mini albums and 6x6 a pack of assorted Bazzil Basics Paper.

Preserves Thank You Card

Happy hump day! I hope you all are having a great week and looking forward to the weekend.  Today's project is a quick thank you card.  I spent last weekend visiting my good friends Ashley and Nick and their very cute daughter in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  Since I had to fly into another town an hour away, Ashley's mom and sister were kind enough to pick me up from the airport and drive me back to town.  On the ride back, Ashley's mom was asking me about my favorite types of food and, more importantly, my favorite type of seafood (fried shrimp - so bad for you but so good). That evening we went over to her house for dinner, and all of my favorite foods were laid out for everyone to eat.  To say that I was in heaven was an understatement.  I sat down last night and pulled together a quick thank you card using From My Kitchen.  I've had this cartridge for awhile, but rarely use it so I was so glad that I could pull it out for the occasion.  In addition to being a great cook, Ashley's mom also makes her own fig preserves so the jars images were perfect in addition to the title.

Ladybug Thank You Card

On Monday, I was talking to my friend at work about her daughter's birthday party.  The theme of the party was centered around ladybugs and they were prevalent in the inviation and the cute gifts for the kids that attended.  Notably, the ladybug on the invitation came from the Walk In My Garden cartridge. Needless to say, the party was a success and our conversation turned to the topic of thank you cards. I suggested that she make the thank you cards and just keep it simple for mass production purposes. At the end of the conversation, I offered to create a prototype card that would be easy to make. I went home that evening and whipped up this little card (using only scraps!) in about 20 minutes, which is a record for me.

Just For You Card

Ever since my Simply Charmed cartridge arrived, I have been busy playing around with the all of the great images. One of my crafting goals this year is to push myself creatively when designing. For this card, I decided to make a 5x5 card, rather then the standard A2. I also incorporated a shaped layer in addition to my typical mat layers. The result was this fun tree card paired with a "Just for you" stamp from Stampin' Up. I have to laugh that even though spring has arrived, my card is already channeling the arrival of fall.

Card base: Kraft card stock from Recollections sized at 5 x 5".
First layer: Patterned paper from DCVW Citrus paper stack sized at 4 3/4" x 4 3/4".
Second layer: Patterned paper from DCVW Citrus paper stack sized at 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".

Ribbon: Satin brown ribbon from stash

Simply Charmed Birthday Card

Happy hump day!  I have been working through my list of scrapping-related projects for the month. One of the top projects on my list is to create a birthday card for my friend's daughter's first birthday.  I recently purchased Simply Charmed and I love the image of the chick in the hatched egg.  I initially threw this card together as a way to pair it with a My Pink Stamper stamp set I had lying around unused, but then realized that this would be a great birthday card.  I popped up everything on this card with pop dots for added dimension. I also cut out the chicks feet and used them to create a dimensional flower in the lower right hand corner.

Recipe
Card Base: Kraft cardstock from Recollections sized A2 (4" x 5 1/2")
First Layer: Patterned patter from DCWV Citrus paper pack cut at 3 3/4" x 5 1/4"
Second Layer: Patterned patter from DCWV Citrus paper pack
Image: Chick Egg cut at 3" using paper from American Crafts Primaries collection and Bazzill Swiss Dots
Sentiment: My Pink Stamper Stamps Punny-licious
Sentiment First Layer: Circle from Plantin Schoolbook cut at 1 1/4" using Kraft cardstock
Sentiment Second Layer: 2" Circle punch from EK Success using DCWV Citrus paper pack
Sentiment Third Layer: 1 3/8" Circle punch from EK Success using DCWV Citrus paper pack
Ribbon from Michael's
Sakura Gelly Roll Pen - White
Color Box Fluid Ink - Dark Brown (around edges of patterned papers, card base and image)
Inkadinkadoo Bold Brights Chalk (around the chick and egg)
